As lead singer and guitarist Roger Keiaho explains, "Every band dreams about that last minute, out of the blue, phone call to open up for a band you've been a fan of and have respected for years. Even though it's only 24 hours away, we literally can't wait."
Rey Fresco will follow up the Incubus dates with their third annual Halloween concert, Freak Fest, taking place at the Ventura Theater on Saturday, October 29.
About Rey Fresco:
Rey Fresco (Spanish for “King Fresh”), is a four piece band whose wholly original sound blends their mutual love for rock, reggae, soul, world, and Latin music - creating a sound that AOL describes as “the sonic equivalent of a global summit.” In a throwback to the pre-online era, the band cultivated a thriving fan base on the strength of their live shows which feel more like a “come one, come all” party. The result, the band has opened for a variety of diverse artists, from hip hop legends like NAS to radio favorites like Colbie Caillat and Michael Franti not to mention musical soul mates like Ozomatli, Toots and the Maytals, and Ziggy Marley.
Despite the different audiences every night, one thing that remained consistent was the band’s ability to win over the crowd and in the process their regional fan base is quickly blossoming into a national one. Along with the band’s live show, the record received major critical acclaim. NPR praised the band’s “unusual ethnic blend” as well as the “heavenly chords and haunting runs” and they made the song, “Roll Your Dice”, their song of the day while, The New York Daily News, raved about the band’s “really fresh sound”.
As harpist, requinto, guitarist, and vocalist, Xoco Moraza explains, “Everyone brings something different to the table, musically and personally. Granted, all bands have that to a degree, but, how extreme those elements were in our case, made the result a sound that people have reacted."
